We Don’t Last Long

A prayer based on Psalm 49

We aren’t immortal. We don’t last long.
Like our dogs, we age and weaken. And die.
— Psalm 49:12 (The Message)

Lord God, heavenly Father, you who are the source of all true wisdom, guard us from the folly of thinking we will live forever. Teach us the wisdom of living as mortal creatures who depend on you for life, for breath, for everything; and after this brief pilgrimage raise us to eternal life; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Ryan serves as a pastor at Grace Bible Church. His ministry ranges from preaching, teaching, and writing, to listening, being present, and walking with others through some of life’s most difficult experiences.

He lives with his wife and children in Escondido, California.
