Daily Prayer for Anxious Souls

A simple pattern for daily prayer

Opening Sentences

Let my soul rise up to meet You
As the day rises to the sun
Let my soul rise up to meet You
Let that patient kingdom come

— Sandra McCracken, “Patient Kingdom”

Hear my cry, O God,
 listen to my prayer;
from the end of the earth I call to you
 when my heart is faint.
Lead me to the rock
 that is higher than I,
for you have been my refuge,
 a strong tower against the enemy.

— Psalm 61:1–3

Adoration

Praise God from whom all blessings flow;
Praise him all creatures here below;
Praise him above you heavenly host;
Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.
Amen.

— Doxology

Psalm

Read the psalm for the day.

Praise

Glory be to the Father,
 and to the Son,
 and to the Holy Spirit:
As it was in the beginning,
 is now, and ever shall be,
 world without end. Amen.

— Gloria Patri

The Apostles’ Creed

I believe in God, the Father almighty,
creator of heaven and earth.

I believe in Jesus Christ,
 his only Son, our Lord.
He was conceived by the Holy Spirit
and born of the Virgin Mary.
He suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried.
He descended to the dead.
On the third day he rose again.
He ascended into heaven,
and is seated at the right hand
 of the Father.
He will come again to judge
 the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic Church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting. Amen.

— Book of Common Prayer (2019)

The Lord’s Prayer

Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name;
your kingdom come;
your will be done,
 on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our debts,
 as we forgive our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation
 but deliver us from evil.
For yours is the kingdom,
 and the power,
 and the glory, forever. Amen.

Personal Prayer

Pray for your needs, as well as those of your family, friends, church, and neighborhood.

Grace

May the LORD
 bless us and keep us.
May the LORD
 make his face to shine upon us
 and be gracious to us.
May the LORD
 lift up his countenance upon us
 and give us peace.
